About Us
The Crefeld School serves students in grades 7-12. Our mission is to pioneer a progressive, alternative learning community for students. Our primary strategies for student success are the small size of the school and personal attention, flexible and creative approaches to problem solving, a focus on demonstration of essential skills and knowledge, and an overriding respect for individuals and for community values.
Crefeld assumes that all students can learn and that all people learn differently; therefore, all students must work to discover their own learning styles, build on their strengths, develop compensation strategies for their weaknesses, and become advocates for themselves as learners.
Crefeld takes a systems approach to supporting students which means that the school staff works closely with each student's parents and outside professionals as necessary to strategize plans and coordinate efforts. We are guided by the principles of the Coalition of Essential Schools and research on multiple intelligences and learning styles. Crefeld seeks students who are able and interested in participating fully in Crefeld's educational community with the purpose of preparing them for continuing education, citizenship in a democracy, and a happy and healthy life.
