About Us
The Crefeld School's mission is to pioneer a progressive, alternative learning community for classroomsecondary and middle school students. Crefeld's primary strategies for student success are its small size and personal attention, its flexible and creative approaches to problem solving, its focus on demonstration of essential skills and knowledge, and its respect for individuals and community values.
Crefeld assumes that all students can learn and that all people learn differently; therefore, all students must work to discover their own learning styles, build on their strengths, develop compensation strategies for their weaknesses, and become advocates for themselves as learners.
Crefeld takes a systems approach to supporting students which means that the school staff artclassworks closely with each student's parents and outside professionals as necessary to strategize plans and coordinate efforts. Crefeld is guided by the principles of the Coalition of Essential Schools and research on multiple intelligences and learning styles. Crefeld seeks students who are able and interested in participating fully in Crefeld's educational community with the purpose of preparing them for continuing education, citizenship in a democracy, and a happy and healthy life.
