Research Databases

The Crefeld School has partnered with the Chestnut Hill Branch of the Philadelphia Free Library to provide an ongoing research program for all students. Provided on this page are all the links needed to utilize the Free Library’s extensive online research databases. To use the links, students should have their Philadelphia Free Library cards and PIN numbers.

Why do students need a Philadelphia Library card?

Students and faculty regularly require the use of these databases, and the Philadelphia Free Library's online library interface resembles that which our students will encounter beyond their years at Crefeld, both in the workplace and in the university setting.

All students who attend a school in the city of Philadelphia have access to this rich library system regardless of whether or not their residence is in the city. New students will be expected to access online library resources from the Free Library of Philadelphia, and they will need a current Philadelphia library card and PIN (personal identification number) even if they have a valid library card in another county. To support our students, we assist them in obtaining a card, and we maintain a record of their library card number and PIN so that the information is readily available when students need it. All current Crefeld students already have Philadelphia library cards, and their permission slips and PINs are already on file.

New Students

New students are mailed a packet of incoming paperwork; included is a permission slip and library card application. These are turned in to the front desk with the student's other paperwork, and we do the rest. In about a month, new students receive their library cards.

If you have not received these forms, you may download a PDF version here. Please complete and return them directly to Crefeld.
