The Outdoor Classroom

I can’t believe it but the first quarter is already over and we have family conferences this Friday. We had our annual phonathon on Monday night, where the Board of Trustees called many families in the Crefeld community soliciting gifts for the Annual Fund. It was a successful night thanks to the generosity of so many people. Thank you!

Involvement of students in real-world endeavors, ranging from going on field trips to managing a farm, Tom Little’s fourth pillar of progressive education, is evident every day at Crefeld. We firmly believe that there are many things that have to be learned outside the four walls of a classroom. Our students have been to Bartram’s Gardens, Morris Arboretum, the State building in Harrisburg, and the Philadelphia Zoo. Teachers and students are also preparing for Pioneer Day in the middle school and a 1950s sock hop on the 9/10 team. All of this in the first quarter, in addition to two hours of community service every week, the weekly 10th grade Outward Bound leadership program, and the permaculture center on campus. As you can probably tell, I am really proud of how we live this pillar of progressive education.

At The Crefeld School, you experience your education!
