Social Justice

I want to share my talk from morning meeting earlier this week. The following was said to all students and staff in attendance.

When people ask me what being a progressive school means, I tell them three things. That Crefeld is committed to developing the whole child, hands on and experiential learning, and that Crefeld prides itself on having a commitment to social justice.

Let me define social justice for you:  Social justice -  The view that everyone deserves equal economic, political and social rights and opportunities.

So, yesterday in morning meeting, I talked about this country being politically charged right now. I am going to ask you to remove the people and political affiliations from what has been happening in our country over the last few days.

As critically engaged citizens, I want you to ask yourself: Do the actions of our government align with what you believe is right?

Let me read the definition for you again: Social justice -  The view that everyone deserves equal economic, political and social rights and opportunities.

And if the actions of our government do not align with what you believe is right, I ask you as a critically engaged citizen, what is your responsibility to be an agent for change?

You have heard me say this many times, but please make no mistake about it. The safety of this community is my number one priority. I stand by every member.
