President of Progressive Education Network Visits Crefeld

    Posted March 7, 2013

On Monday, February 28, Tom Little, the current President of the Board of the Progressive Education Network, and the Head of Park Day School in Oakland, California, visited The Crefeld School. Tom is spending his sabbatical exploring the current state of Progressive Education in the United States. His goal is to consolidate his observations into a book chronicling current-day progressive practices, and how the "21st Century Learning" movement intersects with the historical tenants of progressive education.

George Zeleznik spent much of the afternoon with Tom, touring the school and answering his questions about Progressive Education in general and in relation to Crefeld. Tom was truly impressed with the comfort level shown between staff and students at Crefeld and he commented that only a small number of high schools, progressive or not, are able to foster the level of trust that organically exists within our community.

Tom has been visiting schools throughout the country, and publishing blog postings about each visit. You can view his blog post about Crefeld here.

It was a great day for Crefeld!

Crefeld Connects - Our newest Community Service Learning Group's Fantastic Blog

    Posted November 8, 2012

Every Wednesday afternoon all of Crefeld's students and staff break into Community Service Learning groups to give back to the greater community in a variety of ways. One of our groups, Crefeld Connects, that was started this year by Middle School English Teacher, Nicole Greaves, has a great blog that is run by the students. Check out their posts so far here, and check back often to keep up with the group. Additionally, Crefeld Connects is currently taking donations of instant oatmeal packets, granola bars, and hot chocolate packets for Chestnut Hill Meals on Wheels, as well as winter children's clothing and other items for Cradle to Crayons - check out the full list of needed items here. If you can help, please drop your items in Crefeld's foyer.
